I purchased this brand new and used it for 6 weeks. There are not any marks or writing in the book. I have the loose leaf pages in a binder. The pages are bent from the binder.

Some linear algebra books try to focus on concrete geometrical intuitions (like Practical Linear Algebra: A Geometry Toolbox), from which more abstract concepts can be generalized. Others (like Linear Algebra Done Right) take a high-level approach, starting at a general level and linking abstract concepts through elegant proofs. This book does neither. For example, it defines concepts like matrix multiplication and determinant with absolutely no motivation. You might expect a chapter on determinants to contain, oh I don't know, a picture of a parallelogram somewhere? Keep looking. It spends whole chapters teaching you to perform busy-work algorithms by hand, when they could easily be automated. So you get NO insight of any kinds – either concrete geometrical insight, nor algebraic insight about the abstract relationships between the concepts.I don't have a constructive proof for the existence of an ideal linear algebra textbook, but the proof that it exists is a simple lemma: it is exactly the complement of this one.

Stay away from this textbook. Anton does not know to how present Linear Algebra in clear and understandable way for introductory students. If you're using this textbook because it's assigned to you by the professor, bed your professor to explain everything Anton doesn't bother. Also tell your professor to be willing to go over homework problems since Anton writes some of the most poorly worded, difficult to interpret, problems I've ever seen in my life. The amazing thing is that this book has gone through 11 editions and still this terrible at explaining Linear Algebra.
You are going to need the solutions manual to help you navigate through this book. At time, the solutions manual will do a better job explaining what is going on than Anton.
Arrived undamaged with none of the pages missing and is the exact one needed for class.
This was the book for my first University class, and I loved it. It was nice being able to carry around a chapter at a time in my binder with this copy.
The book is fairly understandable, more so than most new math textbooks. Although it's the Applications Version, there are very few applications. There are many mistakes of the typo variety.
This doesn't sound like a good review but I would still recommend it for its purpose. Having seen so many horrible Algebra, Calculus and Differential Equations textbooks in the last few years, this is an improvement, it could have been much worse. They do need to proofread the text much more thoroughly for the next edition and if they're going to call it the Applications Version, they need to put some more applications in it.
Very disappointed with the quality of the book. When I order a book as acceptable, I did not expect for the pages to be detached from the seam or the pages of the book themselves are separated into 2 (2nd picture). The book itself explains the material relatively well, but the physical book itself came in very poor quality.
This book is so terribly written in some places. I have to have it for a class, but the author is just lazy in his explanations. Everything is left as an exercise to prove for yourself. And it is like he is doing a review for someone who already knows linear algebra, not trying to teach it to someone who is new to it. Sorry but this book should be avoided unless you want to be frustrated.
Spine slightly damaged. I’ve had to glue it back together three times.
Difficult to read. It’s not an absolute disaster, but the content feels like it was written for mathematicians or people already familiar with linear algebra. Especially in later chapters.
